I recently read an article in the Vancouver Sun written by Randy Shore.  It was regarding two local businessmen who decided to purchase a composter.  Their reason?

According to Randy Shore’s article: [their shared] “dumpster had to be emptied three or four times a week, at a cost of almost $1,000 a month and the contents were just going to the landfill. The two food businesses were already recycling just about everything, but not their organic waste”.

Randy describes the composter as “not a passive box for decay, but a high-tech machine that takes food waste and trim converts it in one week to dark rich soil” and according to a quote from one of the owners “the composter and recycling system reduces their waste by about 98 percent”!

Now, being from the practical baby-boomer generation I would think that every apartment block, or inner city building, large chain, franchise store, or even the City of Vancouver would be wise to invest in something both as environmentally friendly AND economical as these two smart businesses have done.
