News: Summer Bottle Drive

Sustainability Television Bottle Drive

By Betty Yan

On Sunday July 3, 2011 the Sustainability Television team will run its first ever bottle drive campaign to actively raise funds for community programming, help raise awareness sustainable living in our community, and encourage individuals to get involved in the movement.

Sustainability Television sponsor Modo (formerly the Car-Coop) are generously contributing a pick-up truck to help move bottles and cans to the depot for recycling. Sustainability Television staff, student interns, supporters, as well as sponsors, will all be onsite to assist in the community building exercise.

The bottle drive involves door-to-door collection of recyclable bottles, cans and other packaging which we will return to the bottle depot for funds that go to support community programming.  At the same time, we will be filming the event, fostering relationships with the community and informing people on how to incorporate sustainability into their lives.

Individuals may simply donate recyclables, but will also be encouraged to get involved in making their communities more sustainable through learning and public awareness of what they can do to be a part of the solution.

Company Founder and CEO Jason Robinson says “One way we can all contribute to healthier communities is by sharing our knowledge of healthy living with others though blogs, written articles and other solution oriented content . Most people think they have very little to give in the way of knowledge, when actually the truth is quite the opposite, most people have a puzzle piece that when shared with others can often fill a major gap in our community knowledge. Get involved, share a recipe, an organic gardening technique, or how you built and electric car in your garage… it’s all a part of contributing to our community knowledge base, and I encourage everyone to join as a member of Sustainability Television and share what they know with others”.
