On July 4th and 5th, Glendale Gardens and Woodland will be opening their gates to the biggest outdoor sustainable event in Canada.
It's called "Organic Islands" and the project was first conceived five years ago. This year, there are going to be about 150 boots set up to give attendants a great idea of how living in a green community is so easily attainable!
Deb Morse, festival creator and director, told the Epoch Times the festival should inspire positive sustainable choices, and will allow everyone t revel in a collective fantasy of having clean air, fresh water and a green way of living.
The festival will showcase local businesses and will be similar to a "trade show-style" festival, for participants to see what kind of choices they have as consumers, and to help out their community's economy.
Also, the Green Drinkery, a green microbrewery, will be serving up some delicious frothy beers, wine and even fruity juice coolers with the addition of the Salt Spring Island Brewery.
The festival organizers are even helping to ensure that people travelling to the event won't have as big of a carbon footprint. They're providing free biodesel shuttle bus rides and valet bike parking by donation. Not only that, but the festival will be powered by solar energy, will use biodegradable supplies and near zero waste management — in other words — this festival is a true example of "sustainability in action."
If that wasn't interesting enough, Vancouver-based upbeat, folk-indie musician Jeremy Fisher will be playing a concert on Saturday, July 4 of the festival!
